Portuguese neon and Spanglish sand: Planeta Gayfolk as a planet of many languages

Most of Mike Sain't Louis's songs are in Spanish, but his imaginary planet also speaks Portuguese, English and the in-between language of the dance floor. A look at «Pura magia» and «Barcelona», two tracks that cross borders without a passport, free to download.

MADRID, Spain, October 24, 2026. An imaginary planet has the luxury of choosing its own languages. Planeta Gayfolk, the queer pop universe created by the Madrid-based lyricist, composer and music producer Mike Sain't Louis, was born in Spanish, and Spanish remains its mother tongue. But walk through the catalogue for long enough and other languages appear: whole songs in English, tracks in Portuguese, a title in French and, above all, the restless mixture of Spanish and English that millions of people use every day without thinking about it.

This release looks at two songs that show how the planet travels between languages, and at what that says about the project as a whole.

A night in Portuguese: «Pura magia»

«Pura magia», "Pure magic", is one of the very few tracks in the catalogue written almost entirely in Portuguese. It opens with a city lit up at night, «Luzes brilham na cidade», lights shine in the city, and with a promise that sets the tone for the rest: «A noite é só diversão», the night is only fun.

The lyric is a classic of the dance genre, and it knows it. There is the beat that carries you away, «Deixe a batida te levar», hearts beating in rhythm and dancing without stopping. The chorus is an invitation as simple as it is irresistible: «Vem cá dançar comigo», come here and dance with me, followed by the phrase that gives the song its title, «Noite de pura magia».

What gives «Pura magia» its particular charm is the imagery of the second half. The moon becomes the only guide, «Somente a lua nos guia», across «Neste mar de neon», a sea of neon. A shooting star crosses the sky and wishes sit «na ponta da língua», on the tip of the tongue. And the song closes with a line that could be the motto of the whole planet: «Nossa festa não termina», our party never ends.

Why Portuguese? The song does not explain itself, and it does not need to. Portuguese is a language of summer music for many Spanish listeners, from Brazilian rhythms to the beaches of the Atlantic coast, and the choice gives the track a sense of holiday, of being somewhere else for a night. It also extends the welcome of the planet to the hundreds of millions of people who speak Portuguese around the world.

A city in two languages: «Barcelona»

If «Pura magia» changes language completely, «Barcelona» lives in the space between two. The song is mainly in English, but Spanish phrases appear throughout, marked in the lyric with quotation marks, as if they were whispered asides in the middle of the conversation.

The opening establishes the setting with the cinematic economy of a film title: «Late night, city lights, Barcelona's glow». From there the lyric moves as a couple does on a dance floor, one language leading and the other following. The narrator's heart skips; the rhythm is magnetic under moonlit skies; and then the Spanish arrives, «"Perdidos en la mirada"», lost in each other's gaze. A few lines later, the invitation: «"acércate a mí"», come closer to me. And at the peak of the first verse, the word that sums up so much of Planeta Gayfolk: «"nos liberamos"», we set ourselves free.

The chorus is the simplest line in the song and the one listeners remember: «"Barcelona, Barcelona, tú y yo, Barcelona"». The city becomes a refrain, a name repeated until it turns into a feeling. In the second verse the scene moves to the beach, «Your hands, my waist, steps in the sand», and the night closes over the two dancers: «"La noche nos envuelve"», the night wraps around us.

The language mixing in «Barcelona» is never a gimmick. It reflects the reality of a cosmopolitan Mediterranean city where locals, visitors and new residents talk to each other in whatever language comes first. The song captures that hum of conversations and turns it into romance.

The planet's linguistic map

These two songs are not isolated cases. The catalogue includes English-language anthems and lullabies, bilingual dance tracks that move between Spanish and English in the middle of a line, a French title or two and songs rooted in very Spanish turns of phrase. Some listeners discover the project through its English songs and only later find the Spanish-language satire; others travel in the opposite direction.

What unites them is the idea, repeated across the project, that Planeta Gayfolk is a place where nobody has to justify who they are. It would make little sense to demand one official language at the border of such a place. The planet's languages are the languages its inhabitants actually speak, on dance floors from Madrid to Lisbon to Barcelona.
