MADRID, Spain, October 24, 2026. Surveys in many countries have recorded a striking trend: more and more people say they deliberately avoid the news. Not because they do not care, but because they care too much. "Como a mi chihuahua" ("Like My Chihuahua"), a track by Mike Sain't Louis, opens with exactly that confession: «Te voy a contar por qué no veo las noticias». I'm going to tell you why I don't watch the news.
A list of reasons
The first half of the song is built as a series of promises to explain, each beginning with the same phrase. «Te voy a contar por qué me afectan tanto las injusticias», I'm going to tell you why injustice affects me so much. «Te voy a contar por qué me afecta tanto ver a alguna persona llorar», why seeing someone cry affects me so much. The repeated formula has the rhythm of a conversation late at night, when someone finally decides to open up.
What emerges is a portrait of a highly empathetic person who has had to build defences. The narrator admits to being «totalmente desconectado del mundo real», totally disconnected from the real world, and confesses a coping strategy that many will recognise: «de las desgracias importantes / prefiero enterarme por Twitter dos meses más tarde». I prefer to find out about major disasters on Twitter two months later.
Empathy as a burden
Psychologists sometimes describe a phenomenon called empathic distress: the overwhelming discomfort some people feel when exposed to others' suffering, especially when they cannot do anything about it. Constant streams of bad news can intensify it, leading to anxiety, exhaustion and withdrawal. Limiting news intake is one of the most common protective strategies.
The song presents this without guilt. Avoiding the headlines is not indifference; it is self-preservation. For people who have lived through their own crises, such as the harmful relationships described in many other Planeta Gayfolk songs, the capacity to absorb more pain may simply be used up.
From the world to one heart
Then the song turns. After explaining its distance from the world, it asks a direct, personal question: «Te voy a preguntar a ti directamente / si tú también lo sientes». I'm going to ask you directly if you feel it too. If, when you see me, your heart also beats «a mil por hora como a mí / chihuahua», a thousand beats a minute, like mine, chihuahua.
The comparison is funny and affectionate. Chihuahuas are famous for their tiny, racing hearts and their nervous energy. The narrator compares his own pounding heart to theirs, admitting both nervousness and love in one comic image. A complaint follows: «y tú no me dabas ni un beso ni antes de coger la guagua». And you did not even give me a kiss before catching the bus.
The antidote
The final line resolves everything that came before: «tu risa es el antídoto contra mi soledad». Your laugh is the antidote to my loneliness. After the weight of injustice, disasters and other people's tears, the song finds its cure in something small and specific: the sound of one person laughing.
That is a quietly profound idea. The world's problems are too big to absorb; one person's joy is exactly the right size.
The video: lava in the street
The official video moves between tender scenes of dogs and their owners and apocalyptic images of eruptions and fire, as if the world's disasters were happening just behind the private story. The photograph accompanying this release is one of those images: a river of glowing lava flowing down a suburban street between wooden houses, with smoke and flames in the distance. No people are visible. It is the kind of headline the narrator would rather hear about two months later.
For anyone who has switched off
"Como a mi chihuahua" offers recognition to people who feel guilty for looking away from the news. It suggests that protecting one's mind is legitimate, and that connection can come from closer, smaller places. On Planeta Gayfolk, Mike Sain't Louis's imaginary queer world, sensitivity is not a flaw to be fixed.
