Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India – PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya HVF Avadi organized a cleanliness drive at Avadi Railway Station, jointly coordinated by Rajya Puraskar Scouts B. Ebenezer and S. Seshadri. The initiative brought together student volunteers to promote environmental awareness, public hygiene, and responsible civic participation through hands-on community service.Avadi Railway Station is one of the important suburban railway stations in Chennai's rail network, serving tens of thousands of passengers on a typical day. Conducting the campaign in such a busy public location helped expose its message of cleanliness and responsible waste disposal to a broad cross-section of commuters and local residents. While the campaign directly involved student volunteers, its awareness message had the potential to be seen by many of the people passing through the station during the activity.
The drive included cleaning public areas, collecting litter, encouraging proper waste disposal, and interacting with members of the public to emphasize the importance of maintaining clean shared spaces. Volunteers demonstrated that individual actions, when combined with teamwork, can contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment.
The programme was jointly coordinated by Rajya Puraskar Scouts B. Ebenezer and S. Seshadri, who organized volunteer participation, supervised activities, and ensured the smooth implementation of the campaign. Their leadership reflected the values of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, including discipline, service, teamwork, and community responsibility.
Beyond the physical cleaning activity, the initiative aimed to inspire lasting behavioral change by encouraging commuters and local residents to adopt better waste management practices and take greater responsibility for protecting public spaces. Educational awareness messages were shared throughout the campaign to reinforce the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The event also provided students with practical experience in leadership, communication, planning, and community engagement. Through active participation, volunteers strengthened their understanding of environmental stewardship while demonstrating how youth-led initiatives can contribute positively to society.
PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya HVF Avadi continues to encourage students to participate in community service programmes that promote environmental sustainability, responsible citizenship, and social leadership. The Avadi Railway Station cleanliness drive stands as an example of how educational institutions can empower young people to create positive change through voluntary service.
The organizers expressed their appreciation to all participating students, teachers, supporters, railway users, and members of the public whose encouragement contributed to the success of the initiative. They also reaffirmed their commitment to organizing similar awareness and service activities in the future.
