WEST SUMBA, EAST NUSA TENGGARA — September 20, 2026 — The Legal Aid Institute for Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (LBH MABN) has expressed appreciation for the humanitarian approach demonstrated by the West Sumba Police and senior officials of the East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTT), who visited the home of the family mourning the victim of a shooting incident.The appreciation was conveyed by Keba Pala Ndima, S.H., S.Pd., M.Pd., M.H., Head of the Legal Division of LBH MABN, who said that the police presence at the bereaved family’s home reflected concern and empathy toward the affected community.
The condolence visit was led by West Sumba Police Chief AKBP Yohanis Nisa Pewali, S.S., M.H., accompanied by East Nusa Tenggara Police Intelligence Director Kombes Pol. Danang Kuswoyo, S.I.K., and Head of the East Nusa Tenggara Police Information and Communication Technology Division Kombes Pol. Yoseph Krisbiyanto, S.I.K.
Several senior officials of the West Sumba Police also attended the visit. Representatives of the Loli Subdistrict Government and the local Village Government were likewise present to express condolences to the victim’s family.
The victim was reportedly involved in a livestock theft case.
According to Keba Pala Ndima, the decision by police and local government representatives to directly visit and meet the bereaved family demonstrates an approach centered on public service, empathy, and community engagement.
He said that such a humanitarian approach is important in maintaining public security and social stability, while also strengthening communication and trust between law enforcement authorities and the local community in West Sumba.
“Direct engagement with the affected family can serve as an important step toward maintaining social harmony and strengthening public confidence in the law enforcement process,” Keba Pala Ndima said.
LBH MABN emphasized that humanitarian engagement by law enforcement institutions can play an important role in maintaining a constructive relationship between the police, local government and communities, particularly following incidents that have caused concern among residents.
