One crucial detail, however, is missing: he never named the killer.
As the investigation develops, a junior Sub-Inspector takes responsibility for a case that senior officers have effectively abandoned. What initially appears to be an impossible locked-room murder gradually becomes connected to the victim's own writing. The investigation raises a central distinction between discovering the truth and establishing evidence that can prove it.
