New Delhi, India – September 28, 2026 – Sitarist Hidayat Husain Khan continues his work connecting Indian classical traditions with musicians and musical ideas from different cultures. His approach to Global Music Collaboration draws on his background in Indian classical sitar while creating opportunities for exchange across musical traditions.Khan is a seventh-generation exponent of the Imdadkhani-Etawah Gharana and the son and disciple of Ustad Vilayat Khan. His musical training is closely associated with Gayaki Ang, an approach to sitar performance that draws upon the phrasing and expressive qualities of Indian vocal music.
As an Indian Classical Musician, Khan's work encompasses traditional performance as well as collaborative projects. His musical activities have included performances, recordings, educational programs, workshops, and interactions with musicians working in different traditions.
Indian Classical Sitar in Cross-Cultural Music
Cross-cultural collaboration allows musicians to explore similarities and differences in melody, rhythm, improvisation, and performance practices. Within this setting, Khan's sitar remains rooted in Indian classical principles while participating in a broader musical conversation.
