MADRID, Spain, October 25, 2026. People who have left manipulative relationships often describe their recovery as a series of stages. Few artists have documented those stages as thoroughly as Mike Sain't Louis, the Madrid-based lyricist, composer and music producer behind GAYFOLK and Planeta Gayfolk. Over many releases he has written about every step, from confusion to clarity to rebuilding. This series of four releases arranges some of those songs into chapters. Chapter one begins where recovery always begins: with doubt.
Before clarity, fog
From the inside, manipulation rarely resembles manipulation. It passes for misunderstandings, for your own oversensitivity, for a partner who is simply tired or stressed. The spoken-word piece «La última carta» describes this fog with precision. The narrator remembers doubting himself, his reactions and his limits, being told he was exaggerating, that everything was a misunderstanding. For a long time he believed it.
That is the first lesson of the chapter: confusion is not a personal failing. It is what manipulation is designed to produce.
The name for the trick
«Gaslighting» takes its title from the term psychologists use for one of the most destructive tactics: convincing someone that their memory and perception are wrong. The song opens with the classic sentences, «Me dices baby no pasó / que lo soñé», you tell me, baby, it didn't happen, that I dreamt it. Then comes the reply that changes everything: «Pero sorry, yo sé bien / lo que vi», but sorry, I know well what I saw.
Naming the tactic is a turning point for many survivors. Once there is a word for it, the fog begins to lift. The song turns that moment into a dance-floor declaration, ending with a firm «gracias pero no», thanks, but no.
The oath that breaks trust
«Quien miente y jura» explores another moment of recognition: discovering that someone lied while swearing on what they held most sacred, in this case their parents. The song opens with a paradox, that whoever lies to save a love is really condemning it. The narrator realises that the other person feels fondness but not love, and that the actions do not match the words.
Recognising the gap between words and actions is often how people first see a manipulative pattern. The song captures that realisation without melodrama, and it ends with a healthy wish: to be with someone who values him.
It was not me
The emotional climax of chapter one is a short sentence from «La última carta»: «No era yo», it was not me. After years of self-blame, the narrator finally places responsibility where it belongs. That shift, from «what is wrong with me» to «what was done to me», is the moment many therapists identify as the start of real healing.
Why start here
It might seem odd to begin a healing story with songs about lies. But recovery cannot start until the person knows what they are recovering from. Chapter one is about seeing clearly. The next chapters deal with what comes after: the discard, the decision to cut contact and the slow work of rebuilding.
If you are in the fog
If these songs sound familiar, and you are not sure whether what you are living is manipulation, consider talking to a professional or a support service. In Spain, the 024 line offers free, confidential help at all hours. In other countries, domestic abuse helplines, including LGBTQ+ ones, can help you make sense of what is happening. Mike shares his own experience of therapy and psychiatric care because it was outside help that helped him see clearly.
How the songs are made
Mike Sain't Louis writes all his lyrics and directs every production. The music and vocal performance are made with AI, his tool for producing and arranging. He presents himself as the first AI songwriter, «el primer cantautor IA».
