NEWARK, Del., October 13, 2026 — Uncrop AI announced the launch of a browser-based image outpainting service for extending photographs beyond their original boundaries. The service became publicly available on October 13, 2026, through the Uncrop AI website. It generates new visual content around an uploaded image so the resulting canvas can use a wider, taller or otherwise different aspect ratio while retaining the source photograph within the composition.The launch introduces a web workflow in which a user uploads an image, chooses a target frame and positions the source material inside that frame. The system processes the blank area outside the original boundaries and generates additional pixels based on visual information near the image edges. Generated regions are intended to continue nearby colors, textures, lighting and perspective rather than replace the central source image.
At launch, the service accepts JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC files. Individual uploads can be up to 50 MB, and the long side of an uploaded image can measure up to 6,000 pixels. The editor supports custom width and height settings while keeping the full canvas within approximately 16.7 megapixels.
Available aspect-ratio presets include Original, 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 3:2, 2:3, 4:3, 3:4 and 21:9. Users can also enter custom dimensions and move the original photograph within the expanded canvas. The placement controls allow generated space to be added on selected sides of an image rather than being distributed evenly around it.
Uncrop AI uses a two-stage composition process. The system first generates the area beyond the image edges. It then places the source photograph back into the canvas at the processing resolution and blends a narrow region along the boundaries. According to the company, this approach is designed to keep the original subject in its selected position and scale while limiting generated changes to the extended area and its seams.
The service includes Fast and Pro processing modes and a regenerate function for producing another interpretation of the surrounding scene. Completed images can be downloaded from the editor without a watermark. The browser interface is available on desktop computers and mobile devices, including iPhone and Android browsers.
The tool is intended for production situations in which one photograph must be prepared for several layout specifications. Examples include converting a portrait image into a horizontal page header, adding background area beside a product photograph, preparing square and vertical versions of a social image, or creating additional frame space around a tightly composed portrait. These examples describe formatting uses; the generated result depends on the source image and the selected frame.
