Public statement by Nordhain Finanz Inc.Berlin, 4 November 2026
Nordhain Finanz Inc. disputes the description of the company as a “letterbox company” in StadtrandNachrichten’s reporting. Nordhain has a Berlin business office, a business registration and confirmed membership of the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Tax registration and the allocation of a German tax number have been applied for.
Our criticism concerns journalistic standards: anyone assessing the transparency of other businesses must also accept factual questions about their own media operation. StadtrandNachrichten identifies Daniela von Treuenfels as its publisher and responsible editor. The portal publicly requests reader donations, offers memberships and seeks advertisers. What matters is how their significance and editorial independence can be understood and assessed.
We therefore ask specific questions: Under what legal form is the media operation currently conducted? If an association is involved in its operation or funding, which association is it, what is its legal status, and is it recognised as charitable for tax purposes? What commercial activities does any such association undertake, and how do they relate to the media operation? What is the aggregate breakdown of the portal’s income from donations, memberships, advertising and other revenue? Who is the legal recipient of each category of payment? What rules separate advertising sales from editorial decisions? How are advertisements and, where applicable, paid articles or collaborations labelled for readers?
We expect clear information about the public-facing media operation and an accountable approach to commercial interests. Critical journalists are entitled to ask uncomfortable questions. They should show the same openness when questions are directed at them.
Nordhain will continue documenting its objections to the disputed reporting and seek legal review. We accept substantive criticism; we firmly reject sweeping disparagement.
