The Inspiration Behind The Silly Goose of Magic

The Silly Goose of Magic was inspired by my three-year-old niece, whose real name means “Sunny.”

That is where Sunny, the little girl at the heart of this story, came from.

I wanted to create a character who captured the joy, curiosity, silliness, and imagination of a young child. My niece was a big part of that inspiration, and giving my main character the name Sunny felt like a little tribute to her.

The story was also inspired by my love of children's literature and the many wonderful children's books I grew up reading and discovering over the years. I have always admired the magic of children's authors who can take something simple—a child, an animal, a toy, a forest—and turn it into an entire world of imagination.

Those books reminded me how powerful children's stories can be. They can make children laugh, encourage them to dream, introduce them to new ideas, and create characters they remember long after they finish reading.

I've dreamed of writing a children's book for a very long time. While I've written other kinds of stories and creative projects, creating a picture book for children was always something I wanted to experience.

With The Silly Goose of Magic, I finally turned that dream into a real story.

I wanted to combine the things I love about children's books: imagination, humor, memorable characters, adventure, magic, and a simple heartfelt message.

And most importantly, I wanted the story to feel like something a child could open and immediately enter.

A magical forest.

A talking tree.

A silly monkey.

Sparkling flowers.

A magical goose.

And a little girl who discovers that even after the biggest adventure, there is something wonderful about coming home.

I hope The Silly Goose of Magic gives young readers the same feeling that my favorite children's books have always given me—the feeling that when you open a book, anything can happen.

And perhaps, after reading about Sunny and her silly goose, a child might look at their own favorite toy and wonder:

“What if it could come alive, too?

That is the kind of magic I wanted to create.
