JAKARTA, Indonesia — Sept. 14, 2026 — More than 2,100 people have registered for The Future Talks Webinar Series, a four-day international higher education program connecting Indonesian students with universities and education institutions from around the world.Organized by Mata Garuda LPDP and Mata Garuda Central Java, the program began on Sept. 12 and continued through Sept. 13, with two additional days scheduled for Sept. 19–20. Registration remains open, with participation expected to continue growing.
The event brings together more than 20 universities and education institutions from various countries, offering prospective students information on university admissions, academic programs, scholarships and opportunities to study abroad.
The strong participation highlights growing interest among Indonesian young people in international higher education and the need for accessible information to help them make informed decisions about their academic futures.
“The Future Talks is an opportunity for participants to gather as much information as possible from universities and understand the distinctive strengths of each institution,” said Ratna Prabandari, head of the Cooperation and Garuda Scholarship Team at Indonesia’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, who officially opened the event.
Prabandari encouraged participants to use the sessions to explore study options that align with their interests and plans. She also urged them to continue exploring opportunities at The Future Fest, which is scheduled to take place in Jakarta, Surabaya and Yogyakarta from Oct. 3–6.
The program is supported by LPDP and the Garuda Scholarship as part of efforts to expand access to international higher education information in Indonesia.
Among the participating institutions are the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), The University of Melbourne, Johns Hopkins University, Monash University, The University of Sydney, UNSW Sydney and the University of Adelaide.
Participants have been able to engage directly with university representatives through presentations and question-and-answer sessions, giving them opportunities to learn more about admission requirements, scholarships, academic programs and campus experiences.
STUDY ABROAD OPPORTUNITIES
The first two days featured sessions covering a broad range of international education topics.
On Sept. 12, Monash University opened the program with a session on admissions, scholarships, campus life and career opportunities. The University of Melbourne followed with strategies for gaining admission to top universities.
Other sessions featured Russian House, The University of Sydney, Johns Hopkins Carey Business School and Istituto Europeo di Design, which discussed scholarships, personal branding, studying in Russia, admission strategies and design education in Italy.
The second day featured EducationUSA, Education New Zealand, LSE, UNSW Sydney and the University of Adelaide.
EducationUSA discussed admissions and academic structures, while Education New Zealand highlighted scholarships and leading universities in New Zealand. LSE presented strategies for securing admission to top universities.
A special session featured Zhafirah Syahida, an influencer and educator, who spoke on *Study Abroad to Leading Change*. She shared perspectives on studying abroad, personal development and the role of international education in broadening perspectives and shaping future career choices.
EXPANDING ACCESS
Albertus Andhika, head of the steering committee of The Future Festival, said The Future Talks was designed not simply as an education exhibition but as a platform for scholarship recipients and alumni involved in Mata Garuda to help expand access to information about international study opportunities.
The initiative reflects Mata Garuda's broader role in connecting Indonesian students with educational and scholarship opportunities, he said.
Dwi Hermawan, chair of Mata Garuda Central Java, said the collaboration could also help make information about international education more accessible to communities in Central Java and encourage more young people to plan for overseas study.
The remaining sessions will take place on Sept. 19–20, extending the opportunity for prospective students to engage with international universities and education institutions.
With registration still open, The Future Talks aims to help participants move beyond the aspiration of studying abroad by giving them practical information to assess their options, prepare for admission and plan their academic futures.
