Ukrainian songwriter Tetiana Ilienko has released her new original song “Забудь мене” (“Forget Me”), accompanied by an atmospheric music video. The release explores the emotional aftermath of a relationship and the difficult moment when letting someone go does not necessarily mean that the feelings are gone.At the heart of “Забудь мене” is the conflict between the desire to leave the past behind and the hope of somehow recovering what has been lost. Memories, separation and emotional attachment become central themes of a story in which two people may no longer be together, yet their connection continues to exist.
The title itself reflects this contradiction. “Forget Me” sounds like a request addressed to another person, but it also becomes an attempt to convince oneself to move forward. The past remains present through memories, emotions and the image of someone who was once close.
The visual world of the music video extends this emotional narrative. Created in a cold palette of deep navy and indigo, the video uses rain, fog, nighttime lighting and reflections on wet pavement to establish an intimate, dreamlike atmosphere. The imagery mirrors the emotional state at the center of the song — quiet on the surface, yet filled with unresolved feelings underneath.
A man and a woman form the central relationship in the video. Despite distance and loss, an invisible bond between them remains, connecting moments of the present with memories of what they once shared.
Another recurring figure is a violinist whose face is hidden behind a mask. Rather than functioning simply as another character in the story, the violinist represents memory, music and the invisible force that repeatedly draws a person back toward the past. His appearances add a symbolic dimension to the visual narrative and reinforce the sense that some experiences continue to follow us long after they have ended.
Through its lyrics, music and visual storytelling, “Забудь мене” focuses on a deeply familiar emotional experience: trying to forget someone while realizing that feelings cannot always be switched off by a conscious decision.
For Tetiana Ilienko, personal emotions become the starting point for a broader story about love, loss and the traces that relationships leave behind.
“Забудь мене” is ultimately a song for those who have tried to move on from someone important, only to discover that certain memories and emotions need more than a decision to disappear.
