The lyrics were written in 2010. Rather than telling one specific story, the song captures a much broader feeling: that difficult moment when the familiar world no longer seems as simple and safe as it once did in childhood.The image of an angel breaking its wings becomes a metaphor for this transition. As we grow older, we gradually encounter disappointment, loss, and a reality capable of challenging our former ideas of happiness. Things we once believed in unconditionally no longer seem unshakable, while our dreams are put to the test by life itself.
“And everything in the world has fallen, shattered” is one of the lines that sets the emotional tone of the composition. Throughout the lyrics, familiar sources of comfort disappear: “there is no consolation,” “the dear sky is crying,” while the sun — traditionally associated with light and warmth — is met with a farewell: “Goodbye, my dear sun.”
Yet amid this sense of loss, one line becomes especially significant: “We will not forget that we are children.” It reveals another dimension of the song. “An Angel Breaks Its Wings” is not only about the collapse of illusions, but also about the part of ourselves that remains with us despite growing older — the memory of our dreams, our sincerity, and our ability to experience the world as we once did in childhood.
The contrast between light and its disappearance runs throughout the composition. The angel, wings, sun, and sky — images traditionally associated with protection, freedom, and hope — take on a different meaning here, conveying the inner crisis of someone forced to say goodbye to some of the beliefs and perceptions about life they once held.
