The Martha Link Walsh Gallery Releases Revised Edition of Shared Spirits in Connecticut

The Martha Link Walsh Gallery releases the revised edition of Shared Spirits, featuring 33 original paper-cut artworks and animal symbolism.

BRANFORD, CT — The Martha Link Walsh Gallery announces the August 31, 2026 release of the revised edition of Shared Spirits: Connecting to Nature's Wisdom, authored and illustrated by paper-cutting artist Martha Link Walsh. The 78-page volume combines 33 original paper-cut illustrations with descriptive commentary on animal symbolism and traditional paper-craft methods. This updated release revises the original 2021 edition by standardizing interior typography, refining page layouts, and updating metadata across print and digital formats.

The volume documents paper-cutting artistry, a folk art tradition originating in China following the invention of paper making. Walsh utilizes two distinct paper-cutting techniques in the collection: single-piece paper-cuts created using surgical scalpels and multi-layered colored paper compositions. The accompanying commentary outlines historical and natural symbolism associated with 33 animal species. Featured entries include the historical representation of the bear as a symbol of patience, the raccoon as an emblem of resourcefulness, and the swan as an example of grace under pressure.

This revised edition updates interior formatting to ensure layout consistency across all featured spreads. Photographer Richard Kosenski documented the three-dimensional cut-paper works to capture shadow depth and physical layering, while book designer Kelly Radding structured the interior layout for commercial and library distribution formats. The cataloging structure supports distribution across institutional channels, including school media centers and public libraries.

Walsh has practiced paper-cutting for nearly 50 years, operating her Branford gallery after studying global paper-cutting traditions in Europe, Asia, and North America. Her previously published titles include A Paper-Cut Christmas: Legends of the Gift Giver, A Paper-Cut Christmas: The Twelve Days of Christmas, A Paper-Cut Christmas: The Stories of Christmas, and Quarantine Critters. The gallery functions as an exhibition venue, studio, and educational space dedicated to cut-paper art preservation.

The publication is available in three formats:

Paperback: ISBN 979-8-9974822-0-6
Hardcover: ISBN 979-8-9974822-1-3
eBook: ISBN 979-8-9974822-2-0

The title is available through major retail distribution networks, independent booksellers, and directly through the publisher.
