Pissouri Bay Divers Strengthens Limassol Wrecks Diving Experiences with Guided Visits to Costandis and Lady Thetis

Located in Pissouri Bay, the family-run PADI dive centre provides diving experiences across Cyprus for visitors with different levels of training and experience.

Pissouri Bay Divers is strengthening its Limassol wrecks diving experiences, giving qualified divers the opportunity to explore the Costandis and Lady Thetis wrecks under professional guidance. The two vessels form part of an artificial reef near Limassol and provide an accessible way to experience wreck diving while discovering the marine life that has developed around the sites.

Located in Pissouri Bay, the family-run PADI dive centre provides diving experiences across Cyprus for visitors with different levels of training and experience. Its position between Limassol and Paphos provides convenient access to a wide selection of dive sites, while organised trips allow divers to experience other parts of the island.

The Limassol wrecks offer an interesting alternative to some of the deeper and more demanding wreck dives found elsewhere in Cyprus. Costandis and Lady Thetis were deliberately sunk in 2014 as part of a project to create artificial reefs, providing new habitats for marine species while establishing additional underwater attractions for divers.

Costandis is a former fishing vessel measuring approximately 23 metres in length. The wreck rests upright on the seabed at a depth of around 25 metres, allowing qualified divers to view its structure while experiencing the surrounding artificial reef environment. Its upright position makes the vessel particularly recognisable as divers approach it underwater.

Lady Thetis is a former passenger vessel measuring approximately 30 metres in length. It was sunk alongside Costandis as part of the same artificial reef project and rests at a shallower depth. The wreck offers numerous features to observe and provides a different experience from its nearby companion.

Guided visits organised by Pissouri Bay Divers are intended to help divers experience the two sites with suitable preparation and an understanding of local conditions. Before entering the water, divers receive information about the planned route, depths, conditions, communication procedures and other important considerations for the dive.

“Costandis and Lady Thetis are fascinating wrecks because they combine accessible wreck diving with the chance to see how marine life has established itself around these artificial reefs,” said a Spokesperson for Pissouri Bay Divers. “We want divers to enjoy the character of each wreck while making sure that every dive is carefully planned around their qualifications and experience.”
Since being placed underwater, the vessels have gradually become habitats for a range of marine species. Fish can often be seen around the structures, while smaller marine creatures may use openings, surfaces and sheltered sections of the wrecks. The changing marine environment means repeat visits can provide different observations over time.

The relatively close proximity of Costandis and Lady Thetis also makes Limassol an appealing location for divers interested in seeing more than one wreck during their time in Cyprus. Although both vessels were sunk as artificial reefs, differences in their original purpose, dimensions, depth and structure give each site its own identity.

Pissouri Bay Divers places emphasis on matching dive experiences with individual ability. Certification, recent diving experience, confidence and environmental conditions can all influence the choice of dive site and route. This approach is particularly important when visiting wrecks, where depth and underwater structures require divers to maintain awareness and good buoyancy control.
The company provides PADI training for those looking to develop their diving knowledge and practical skills. Divers can progress through recognised qualifications and gain experience in different underwater environments, helping them prepare for a broader selection of dive sites around Cyprus.

For experienced divers, wreck diving can offer a different perspective on the island’s underwater environment. Rather than focusing solely on natural reefs and rock formations, wreck sites bring together maritime structures and marine ecosystems. Over time, deliberately sunk vessels can become established habitats and add greater variety to local diving.

The Costandis and Lady Thetis wrecks are part of a wider range of diving available around Limassol. Depending on experience, qualifications and conditions, divers can encounter reefs, rocky formations, artificial structures and marine life, making the region suitable for those who want to experience several types of underwater scenery during their visit.

Pissouri Bay Divers also organises diving beyond Limassol, including experiences around Pissouri, Paphos and Larnaca. This allows visiting divers to combine local dives with trips to other recognised Cyprus dive sites, including larger wrecks and different coastal environments.

The dive centre caters for individuals, groups and dive clubs, with equipment available for those who need it. Guided diving can be arranged according to suitable sites and diver experience, helping visitors make practical plans for their time underwater without having to organise every element independently.

Responsible diving is an important consideration when visiting artificial reefs. Divers are encouraged to maintain appropriate buoyancy, avoid unnecessary contact with wreck structures and leave marine life undisturbed. These practices help protect developing habitats and preserve the quality of the sites for future visitors.

By strengthening its guided experiences at the Costandis and Lady Thetis wrecks, Pissouri Bay Divers is continuing to broaden the opportunities available to divers visiting the Limassol area. With two contrasting artificial reefs, developing marine habitats and professionally planned dives, the Limassol wrecks provide another way to experience the varied underwater landscape found around Cyprus.
