MADRID, Spain, October 25, 2026. Survivors of manipulative relationships hear one sentence more than any other: you are exaggerating. It is said by the partner, by mutual friends, sometimes by family. Mike Sain't Louis, the Madrid-based lyricist, composer and music producer behind GAYFOLK and Planeta Gayfolk, has taken that accusation and turned it into a title. «La ley de la exageración», The Law of Exaggeration, embraces the label with ironic pride and does some very simple arithmetic.
Counting on fingers
The song begins as a children's counting rhyme: «Uno y uno son dos», one and one make two. The simplicity is disarming. Then the sum becomes a story: «Dos ladrones me han robado / veinte años de mi vida del tirón», two thieves have robbed me of twenty years of my life in one go. The two are not burglars but two former partners, described in the next line as «dos narcisistas».
Twenty years is an enormous figure. Put next to the playground sum, it gains force. The song suggests that the damage is so large that it can only be expressed in the most basic language, the way a child would count it.
Owning the accusation
Then comes the line that gives the track its name: «Sí, yo soy la ley de la exageración», yes, I am the law of exaggeration. Instead of defending himself, the narrator accepts the role he has been assigned and turns it into a superhero title. It is a classic move of camp and queer humour: take the insult, put a crown on it, and wear it.
The following lines reverse the accusation. The other person, the song says, is «un narcisista / que vas de víctima», a narcissist who plays the victim, when in reality he is something much less flattering. Playing the victim is one of the most commonly described tactics in narcissistic abuse, and the lyric names it bluntly.
The original and the low-cost version
The most satirical image arrives next. Of the two former partners, one is «víctima salvador», a victim-saviour, and the other is «la versión low cost», the budget edition. Both, the song concludes, are «narcis de profesión», professional narcissists. The idea of a cheap knock-off version of a manipulator is very funny, and it also contains an insight: abusive patterns repeat across relationships, and survivors often recognise the same script performed by different actors.
A farewell with a halo
The chorus ends with an ironic blessing: «Que dios os tenga en su gloria / ¡Adiós!», may God keep you in His glory, goodbye. In Spanish this phrase is normally said of the dead. Here it is a way of declaring the two relationships finished and buried. The goodbye is cheerful, almost relieved.
Repetition as testimony
The lyric repeats its verses three times without change. In a song about not being believed, the repetition has a function: it is the narrator saying the same thing again and again until someone listens. Survivors often have to tell their story many times before it is taken seriously, and the structure of the song echoes that experience.
You are not exaggerating
If someone keeps telling you that your pain is exaggerated, or that you are the problem when you name harmful behaviour, it may help to talk to a professional or a support service. In Spain, the 024 line is free and available day and night for anyone in emotional distress. Outside Spain, local crisis lines and domestic abuse services can help, including for LGBTQ+ people. Mike speaks publicly about his own therapy and psychiatric care in order to make that step easier for others.
