CHENGDU, China — October 17, 2026 — ōkumaneko, a one-person bamboo road-bike workshop led by Guilin Du (杜贵林), is sharing plans to prepare a bamboo bicycle for a June 2027 unsupported ride across the United States. Du's stated plan is to ride Trans Am Nonstop, a route of roughly 6,800 kilometres, with a personal 20-day completion target. These remain plans; this announcement does not claim confirmed event entry or a completed result.Du says he cultivates bamboo whose culms develop a naturally flattened form as they grow. The flattened shape describes the plant's observed growth form, rather than round bamboo pressed flat. He uses this material to make individual road bicycles in Chengdu. These are founder-supplied descriptions; this release does not claim a newly registered species, independent botanical identification, laboratory testing, or independently verified frame-performance results.
The planned cross-country ride follows Du's account of a personal ride of approximately 860 kilometres around Taiwan in about 68 hours. He describes that ride as a personal cycling effort, not a race result. The 2027 project is intended to bring together his material work, hand-built bicycle, and long-distance riding. The workshop's public materials say the ride remains a plan and personal target.
