GAINESVILLE, FL — September 5, 2026 — Gainesville Locally Owned (GLO), a new online business directory serving Gainesville and Alachua County, has launched with a simple goal: to make it easier for residents and visitors to find and support independently owned local businesses.
Unlike general-purpose directories, GLO is specifically focused on businesses that are locally owned and independently operated. The directory is designed to give local businesses a place to be discovered while helping consumers find the people and businesses that make the local community unique.
GLO includes businesses across a wide range of categories, from restaurants, retail stores, and professional services to contractors, automotive businesses, artists, makers, farms, pet services, and other independent businesses.
“People hear the words ‘shop local’ all the time, but finding genuinely local businesses isn’t always as easy as it sounds,” said Renee Carson, founder of Gainesville Locally Owned. “GLO was created to make that search easier—and to give independent businesses a place where they can be seen alongside other local businesses rather than competing primarily with national chains.”
GLO also provides businesses with affordable opportunities to promote themselves through enhanced directory listings, coupons and deals, events, photos and other content.
The directory is intended to serve both consumers and business owners. Consumers can use GLO to discover local businesses, special offers and community events, while business owners can use their listings to provide information and promote what they offer.
A key part of GLO is its definition of “local.” The directory is focused on genuinely independent businesses operating within Alachua County, along with qualifying locally owned businesses within GLO’s defined reach area. National chains, big-box retailers, and corporate-owned locations are not the focus of the directory simply because they have a location in the area.
“GLO isn’t trying to be everything to everyone,” Carson said. “We’re deliberately focused on local. We want to help build a stronger connection between the people who live here and the independent businesses that serve this community.”
