KUSAMBA, KLUNGKUNG, BALI, INDONESIA — September 4, 2026 — Kusamba Village in Klungkung, Bali, has officially been launched as a Maritime Village through the Program Penguatan Kapasitas Organisasi Kemahasiswaan (PPK Ormawa), an initiative led by the Himpunan Mahasiswa Ilmu Keperawatan (HMIK), Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.The launch took place at the Kusamba Village Office on Friday, September 4, 2026, and was officiated by Klungkung Vice Regent Tjokorda Gde Surya Putra. The event marked an important step in strengthening Kusamba's identity and potential as a coastal community while promoting community empowerment and sustainable village development.
The PPK Ormawa initiative, carried out by HMIK FK Unud, focuses on developing the potential of Kusamba's coastal resources through community-based programs. Under the broader GARAM LAUT (Gerakan Masyarakat Berdaya Terpadu) initiative, students work together with local communities and village stakeholders to strengthen skills, encourage local participation, and support the sustainable use of coastal resources.
The program involves community members in activities related to coastal potential, local economic development, environmental awareness, and capacity building. These activities are designed not only to provide practical knowledge and skills but also to encourage the community to become actively involved in the long-term development of Kusamba as a Maritime Village.
The launch also reflects collaboration among students, the Kusamba Village Government, local communities, and other stakeholders. Through this collaboration, the program seeks to connect student initiatives with the needs and existing potential of the community.
The establishment of Kusamba as a Maritime Village is expected to provide a foundation for continued community-based development. Rather than ending with the launch event, the initiative is designed to encourage ongoing participation, strengthen local capacity, and support the preservation and development of Kusamba's coastal potential.
By bringing together higher education, government, and the community, PPK Ormawa HMIK FK Unud demonstrates how student-led initiatives can contribute to sustainable development at the village level.
