Adapta launches a new range of standardised leather offcuts to take reuse one step further
Giving materials a second life, whatever their size

In the fashion industry, a significant proportion of the materials produced never reach their intended end use. According to industry data, between 7% and 20% of materials produced may end up as dormant stock, while in France, an estimated 7,000 to 10,000 tonnes of leather waste are generated each year.

Against this backdrop, reusing existing materials offers a concrete way to reduce waste and extend the life of resources that have already been produced.

This is precisely the mission of Adapta, founded in 2018 to promote the reuse of leather from dormant stocks held by luxury suppliers and make these materials accessible to artisans, designers, manufacturers and brands.

A range designed around the realities of material reuse

Adapta’s offcuts come from manufacturers working with luxury fashion houses. An ESAT — a French organisation providing employment and vocational support for people with disabilities — cuts production leather into standardised formats.

The range will combine leather references and colours available on an ongoing basis with more occasional materials, finishes and shades, depending on production runs and seasonal availability.

A broad selection of colours and finishes will complement the range. Within this selection, three colours — black, taupe and camel — will be permanently available and regularly restocked.

“This new offcut format offers a real advantage compared with full hides from dormant stocks, where availability depends on sourcing opportunities and can vary from one delivery to the next. Seasonal colours, materials and finishes will also allow us to regularly refresh the selection and offer our customers new creative possibilities,” explains Virginie Ducatillon, founder of Adapta.

By combining permanent references with seasonal arrivals, Adapta aims to meet professionals’ replenishment needs while preserving the richness and diversity that are inherent to reuse.
These leather pieces are also ideal for reducing production offcuts at the user’s own end, making them particularly suitable for fashion accessories, notebook covers, small leather goods and even small bags.

A range designed for both professionals and creatives
This new collection is aimed at two complementary audiences.

For B2B customers, it is designed to meet the needs of artisans, manufacturers and brands looking for a consistent, high-quality and standardised supply of leather for smaller-scale products such as small leather goods, pouches and accessories.
For B2C customers, it will give students in fashion, design and architecture schools, as well as individuals and creatives, easier access to quality leather without having to purchase an entire hide.

To make these materials accessible to as many people as possible, the offcuts will be available through several distribution channels: online via the Adapta shop, at the Paris showroom by appointment, and through a selection available on the Mondial Tissus marketplace.

The collection at a glance

Adapta is launching a new range of standardised leather offcuts.

Available in a single 48 × 26 cm format, these offcuts are designed to make quality leather easier to use across a wide range of creative and manufacturing projects.

Two quality grades will be available:
Grade 1 — €8.50: premium-quality offcuts, inspected by Adapta’s team and showing virtually no visible defects.
Grade 2 — €5.50: offcuts sourced through the same supply channels, with some imperfections while retaining a very high-quality material.

Conclusion

With this new range, Adapta is continuing its ambition to make reuse a concrete, accessible and desirable solution.

Having already enabled thousands of professionals to access leather from dormant luxury stocks, the company is now taking reuse further by giving smaller leather formats a new purpose.

Because giving every material a second life is what makes reuse an obvious choice.
