LARGO, Fla., Oct. 9, 2026 — Hammer Haag Steel is keeping the next phase of its manufacturing growth close to home, developing a new Largo facility that will expand the company’s production capabilities while allowing it to retain its skilled Pinellas County workforce. The family-owned steel manufacturer plans to begin moving operations into the new facility during the summer of 2027. With approximately 227,700 square feet currently reflected in project permits, the site will become Hammer Haag Steel’s primary production operation while its existing Clearwater location remains active.
The decision to expand in Pinellas County was driven in significant part by the company’s workforce. Many Hammer Haag Steel employees live in the surrounding community, and maintaining proximity to that existing talent became an important consideration as the company evaluated where to accommodate its next stage of growth.
“Our people helped build this company, and we did not want growth to mean moving away from them,” said Constantin Haag, founder and CEO of Hammer Haag Steel. “Keeping this expansion in Pinellas County gives us the opportunity to grow alongside the workforce and community that have supported Hammer Haag Steel while creating additional skilled manufacturing careers for local families.”
The project comes as Hammer Haag Steel has outgrown the production space available at its current Clearwater operation. The new site is being developed to give the company substantially more room for heavy fabrication, machining, detailing, and operational support.
Approximately 176,000 square feet is planned for heavy steel fabrication. That added space is expected to help Hammer Haag Steel handle larger components and more technically demanding projects while increasing overall production throughput.
A separate approximately 29,000-square-foot area will support an advanced, fully air-conditioned machining operation capable of handling significantly larger and heavier components than the company can currently machine in-house. Another approximately 22,000 square feet will accommodate detailing, administrative, operations and support functions.
Combining fabrication and large-format machining at one primary location is a key part of the company’s growth strategy. By expanding the work it can complete internally, Hammer Haag Steel expects to take on more complex manufacturing assignments while maintaining greater control over production from fabrication through machining and assembly.
At full capacity, the new operation is expected to give Hammer Haag Steel the ability to approximately triple its present production capacity.
The company also expects its workforce to grow as the facility ramps up. An earlier projection called for approximately 100 new positions, while current long-term plans indicate the operation could ultimately support hundreds of additional manufacturing jobs as Hammer Haag Steel grows into the facility’s available capacity.
The expansion has also drawn regional attention, with the Tampa Bay Business Journal recently reporting on Hammer Haag Steel’s plans for the new Largo manufacturing facility.

For Haag, the project represents an opportunity to expand domestic manufacturing capability without separating the company’s growth from the people and region where it was built.
“We want to create a facility capable of competing for some of the largest and most demanding fabrication and machining work in the country,” Haag said. “At the same time, we want the careers that come with that growth to stay here.”
