MADRID, Spain, October 24, 2026. Not every response to prejudice needs to be a speech. Sometimes the most powerful reply is a wink, a fan opened with a flourish, or a person who carries on walking as if the insult had never reached them. In the catalogue of Mike Sain't Louis, the Madrid-based lyricist, composer and music producer behind Planeta Gayfolk, a group of songs explores exactly that: the art of being unmistakably yourself in public, and of turning the stares of others into background noise.
This release looks at three of them. They are funny, bilingual in places and unashamedly camp, but each one also carries a clear message about dignity.
Morning after, no apologies: «Marica chill»
«Marica chill» begins at the most unglamorous moment of any weekend: waking up. «Hoy me levanté con glitter en la cara», the narrator announces, I woke up today with glitter on my face. Last night was wild, the song admits in English, but there is no need to turn it into a saga. What follows is a portrait of a perfectly ordinary day lived without a trace of shame: a black coffee «sin leche y sin drama», heels worn to walk down to the beach, a fan and transparent shorts.
The social world of the song is a small town or a beach neighbourhood, full of eyes. The neighbour comments that "that boy's too much". The fruit seller, on the other hand, gives him a mango. That contrast is the heart of the track: for every person who disapproves there is another who simply smiles, and the narrator decides which reaction deserves attention.
His strategy is disarming. «Y si me miran, I wink back», and if they stare, I wink back. And when the criticism comes from above, from a balcony, the response is the most joyful in the catalogue: «Les mando besitos y pongo reggaetón», I blow them kisses and put reggaeton on. The chorus names the attitude in two words, «Marica chill», reclaiming a slur and pairing it with the calmest possible adjective. No stress, no shame, no fight.
Space taken, permission not requested: «Soy marica sideral»
Where «Marica chill» is relaxed, «Soy marica sideral» is regal. The title can be translated as "I am a sidereal queer", a creature of the stars, and the song opens with a declaration of intent that reverses decades of expectations: «No vine a salvar tu mood, / vine a tomar mi space». I did not come to save your mood; I came to take my space.
The lyric is a sequence of boundaries, delivered with elegance rather than anger. «I don't ask for permission, / mi vida no es un test», my life is not a test. The most quotable lines describe a kind of quiet radiance that does not need volume to exist: «Don't confuse my light with noise, / yo no grito pa' brillar», I do not shout to shine. And there is a sharp aside for anyone who expects pleading: «Si te escuece que no ruegue, / baby, aprende a respirar», if it stings that I don't beg, baby, learn to breathe.
The cosmic imagery connects the song directly with the mythology of the project. Planeta Gayfolk is an imaginary world in the sky, and a "sidereal" queer is, in effect, one of its natives walking around on Earth. Self-confidence here is not arrogance; it is the calm of someone who knows where they come from.
The finger of the accuser: «Tan cateto»
The third song brings the conflict down to street level. «Tan cateto», roughly "So narrow-minded", is addressed to a stranger who is bothered by what he sees. The list of complaints is concrete and painfully familiar: «Que te molesta que vayamos de la mano», it bothers you that we hold hands. It bothers him that the narrator's boyfriend is African. It bothers him that his children might see a kiss, so he covers their eyes.
The narrator's reply is consistent and firm: «No voy a aceptar consejos de ningún espectador», I won't accept advice from any spectator. The word "spectator" is perfectly chosen. The person judging is outside the story, watching a life that does not belong to him, and his opinion has no standing. The chorus then asks the question in the title with mock astonishment, «Pero ¿cómo puede ser usted tan cateto?», and decides not to waste more breath: «No le voy a dar más explicaciones».
The use of the formal «usted» adds a layer of irony. The narrator addresses the bigot with exaggerated politeness, which makes the dismissal sting even more. It is a very Spanish kind of comedy, and a very effective one.
Three tones, one stance
Listened to together, the songs cover three moods of the same stance. «Marica chill» is the shrug, «Soy marica sideral» is the crown and «Tan cateto» is the raised eyebrow. None of them asks for acceptance; all of them assume it as a right. That assumption is perhaps the most political thing about them.
For LGBTQ+ listeners who still deal with stares, comments or covered eyes on public transport, the songs offer a toolkit of replies that do not require a fight. For everyone else, they offer a glimpse of how those everyday moments feel from the inside.
