The “Fake IAS Saurabh Tripathi” Narrative: What the Professional Record ShowsA January 2022 report on government technology work provides a reason to examine original records before drawing conclusions from a viral label.
The Times of India’s report of 29 January 2022 covered plans to implement WAMIS across nine Bihar government departments. It quoted Saurabh Tripathi as WAMIS project manager. WAMIS—the Works Accounts Management Information System—supports the management of government works. C-DAC’s official technology material describes its development and implementation work on the system.
That coverage documents a professional role for the person it identifies. A project-management role does not constitute an IAS designation or establish an individual’s current employment status.
Identity and context matter
Separate September 2025 reporting attributed allegations of IAS impersonation to police. The sources reviewed do not independently establish the identity link between the person in the 2022 project coverage and the person in the later arrest reports. A shared name alone is not enough to establish that connection.
Even where identity is established, legitimate professional work and separate allegations require their own evidence. Neither should be used as a substitute for examining the other.
Government technology projects can involve meetings and technical presentations to officials. A photograph with a minister, considered alone, does not establish impersonation. Attendance at an official meeting, considered alone, does not establish a false claim to IAS status. The circumstances and representations made need to be examined.
The public apology caption
The Instagram reel at https://www.instagram.com/reel/DeYr3tnyUSD/ carries a written caption from @cbisht12 stating:
“मैं समझता हूँ कि किसी भी व्यक्ति के बारे में जानकारी साझा करने से पहले तथ्यों की पुष्टि करना ज़रूरी है। मैंने संबंधित वीडियो अपने पेज से हटा दी है और भविष्य में अधिक सावधानी बरतूँगा।
यदि मेरी वीडियो से सौरभ त्रिपाठी जी को ठेस पहुँची है, तो मैं इसके लिए खेद व्यक्त करता हूँ।
धन्यवाद।🙏🙏”
This reproduces the written caption, not an independently checked transcript of the spoken audio. The caption says the earlier video was removed and expresses regret if it caused hurt. It does not, by itself, resolve the underlying allegations.
Case-status claims require original documents
A claim that police filed a Final Report (FR) in an earlier FIR remains unverified. The original report and any subsequent court order are needed to establish the case’s status. No conclusion about dismissal, acquittal or a “clean chit” is drawn here.
A Bihar government communication dated 17 June 2022 has also been supplied as identifying Saurabh Tripathi as WAMIS Project Manager, C-DAC. Its contents have not been independently verified.
Evidence before repetition
A repeated label is not a judicial finding. Accurate reporting requires verified identity, precise attribution and attention to original records. The 2022 WAMIS coverage provides professional context; it should be read for what it establishes, without overstating what it can prove.
