Coast To Coast Cabinetry Reveals 4 Kitchen Trends Shaping New England Remodels in 2027

Warm wood finishes, zoned layouts, built-in storage and measured color top the list as homeowners move away from the all-white kitchen.

Cranston, Rhode Island, October 28, 2026 – Recent kitchen projects by Coast To Coast Cabinetry, a cabinetry and countertop company serving Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut and New Hampshire, show four trends set to shape New England remodels in 2027:

Wood and mid-tone finishes in place of all-white cabinetry
Kitchens divided into work zones, including double islands
Storage built into the cabinetry
Bold color used on a single feature, such as an island or dry bar

The projects reflect national research. The Houzz 2026 Kitchen Trends Study found homeowners moving toward wood and warmer finishes and investing in built-in storage. In September 2026, cabinet maker MasterBrand named “Kanga,” a mid-tone stain, its 2027 Finish of the Year.

1. Wood tones replace all-white

In a new-construction kitchen in Swansea, Massachusetts, Coast To Coast Cabinetry installed white oak shaker cabinets with a navy waterfall island and a full-height quartz backsplash. In Smithfield, Rhode Island, A Host’s Dream Kitchen pairs Driftwood Shaker cabinetry, a rich mid-tone wood, with Calacatta Taj quartz countertops in cream, taupe and soft brown.

2. Work zones reorganize the open kitchen

The same Smithfield kitchen fits two 8-foot islands into one open plan. It has dedicated zones for food preparation, dining, entertaining and cleanup, with generous walkways between them. The layout was refined several times during design and planning to keep traffic moving around both islands.

3. Storage moves inside the cabinets

Built-in storage across recent projects includes double pull-out trash cans, spice drawer inserts and floor-to-ceiling cabinetry. In a Providence kitchen completed in three weeks, a corner pull-out system makes the whole blind corner cabinet usable, and a Lazy Susan with pull-out drawers adds organized storage. In older New England homes without room for a walk-in pantry, these features keep counters clear.

4. Color returns as a focal point

Color is appearing on single features as well as full kitchens. Recent installations include:

a navy island in Swansea, Massachusetts
a Shaker Naval dry bar in Milton, Massachusetts
a Shaker Moss kitchen in Providence, Rhode Island
a Shaker Caramel and Hunter Green kitchen in New London, Connecticut

Tips for homeowners planning a 2027 kitchen remodel

Try wood or color on the island first if you are unsure about a full kitchen
List everything currently stored on your counters; each item needs a home behind a cabinet door
Plan zones before choosing finishes, since layout affects daily use more than color
Ask what the cabinet boxes are made of; plywood boxes and dovetail drawers are typically more durable than particleboard
