Check Point Brings AI Inspection to the Firewall — Securetron Says the AI Gateway Is the Missing Control

With Check Point and Palo Alto both shipping prompt-level inspection in 2026, the AI firewall has gone mainstream. Securetron argues the decisive control point is not the network edge but the gateway between AI agents and LLM backends — where AI-FW inspects prompts and responses, enforces policy, and keeps a full audit trail, self-hosted.

TORONTO, October 24, 2026 — The AI firewall has gone mainstream. Check Point announced its AI Network Firewall on July 30, 2026, putting prompt- and agent-level inspection into its R82.20 firewall software, running from gateways customers already operate. Palo Alto Networks made its Prisma AIRS AI gateway generally available the same month. A HackerNoon analysis published October 22, 2026, called Check Point's move one of the clearest signs of where the shift is heading: AI security being absorbed into the infrastructure enterprises already run and trust.

Securetron agrees with the direction — and says it stops one layer short.

"A network firewall, however good, still meets AI traffic as encrypted HTTPS to a destination," said Sarah Reid, Securetron spokesperson. "It can establish that an employee reached an AI service. It cannot govern what the agent asked, which model answered, what data crossed in either direction, or produce an audit trail an auditor will accept. That governance lives one layer up: at the gateway between your AI agents and your LLM backends. That is the layer AI-FW was built to be."

The exposure the firewall vendors are chasing is real and already universal. Check Point Research's AI Security Report 2026 found that between 87% and 93% of organizations experience at least one high-risk generative-AI interaction every month, and the share of prompts carrying sensitive corporate, personal, or regulated data doubled in a year to one in every 25 interactions. Organizations now run an average of ten AI applications a month, many outside any formal governance process, and the same research found security weaknesses in 40% of 10,000 Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers reviewed, plus 15,300 indirect prompt-injection payloads planted across public web pages.

AI-FW, Securetron's self-hosted AI firewall and governance gateway, sits between AI agents and LLM backends. It inspects prompts and responses, enforces policy on what agents and models may do, routes traffic across providers, and records every interaction for audit — so regulated enterprises can adopt AI agents without sending their prompts, context, and data through a third party's control plane. Because it is self-hosted, an organization's AI traffic never has to leave its own infrastructure to be governed.

"The firewall vendors validating this category is good news for everyone who has been saying AI traffic needs its own control point," Reid added. "But buyers should ask one question before they buy: does this control see the prompt, or just the packet? If it only sees the packet, you still have no policy on the agent, no audit on the answer, and no answer when the regulator asks what your AI did. Govern the gateway, and the rest of the stack gets simpler."

AI-FW's Community Edition is free to use — proprietary, not open source — with 10 billion tokens per month and no credit card required, so teams can put a governed gateway in front of their agents before the next high-risk interaction finds them first.
