CGIM Elects Dipa Kaur as President to Lead Next Chapter of Governance Excellence

CGIM has elected seasoned governance professional Dipak Kaur (Dipa) as its new President, marking a new chapter in the Institute's 67-year legacy. With over 30 years of experience, Dipa will lead CGIM in advancing governance excellence, professional competency and thought leadership in Malaysia and beyond.

KUALA LUMPUR, 13 July – The Chartered Governance Institute of Malaysia (CGIM), formerly known as The Malaysian Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators (MAICSA), has elected Dipak Kaur (Dipa), a highly experienced Chartered Secretary and Governance Professional, as its new President. Dipa succeeds Dato’ Akbar bin Moidunny, who now serves as Immediate Past President.

“Under Dipa’s leadership, CGIM will continue to strengthen and vitalise the profession, equip members to meet dynamic governance and regulatory demands, and shape the future of governance in a digital, sustainability-driven environment,” said CGIM Chief Executive Officer Justin J. Anthony.

Dato’ Akbar bin Moidunny expressed gratitude to the Council, members and management team for their support during his tenure, congratulating Dipa: “Her extensive experience and leadership will further advance CGIM and the governance profession in Malaysia.”

In outlining her vision, Dipa reaffirmed CGIM's commitment to leading governance excellence in Malaysia and beyond. “It is a profound honour to lead CGIM, with its 67-year legacy as Malaysia’s premier body for chartered secretaries and governance professionals,” said Dipa. “We will continue to champion professional competency and development, strengthen student and member engagements, drive thought leadership, advocate for best practices, lead dialogues with regulators, and reinforce accountability, integrity, and ethics as the profession takes on an increasingly strategic role. Good governance is no longer just compliance—it is a crucial enabler of sustainable growth, organisational resilience, and long-term value creation. I also extend my sincere thanks to outgoing President Dato’ Akbar bin Moidunny for his exemplary leadership, guidance, and unwavering commitment during his tenure”.

Appointed Deputy President in July 2024, Dipa has served CGIM in several key leadership capacities since 2021, including chairing the taskforce that developed the Corporate Governance Guide for Non-Listed Companies (published in 2023). She represents the Institute on several national governance and regulatory platforms, including the Corporate Practice Consultative Forum (CPCF), the CPCF Technical Committee, the CPCF Technical Focus Group and the Company Secretaries Consultative Group (CSCG).

Professionally, Dipa serves as Company Secretary of the Maxis Berhad Group of Companies, where she provides strategic governance and advisory support to the Chairman, Board of Directors, Board Committees and senior management. She brings over 30 years of extensive experience in corporate law and governance, regulatory compliance and company secretarial practice across both public listed and private companies.

Dipa is a Fellow and Chartered Governance Professional of CGI Malaysia. Her robust academic and professional qualifications include LLB (University of Leicester, UK), LLM (University of Malaya), Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance (ACCA), Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, Certificate in Sustainable Development (University of Sussex, UK), and Certificate of Legal Practice. She is a non-practising Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
