TORONTO, Ontario, September 30, 2026. Catch The Key Inc., the residential real estate team of Sushil Mishra and Himani Sood at REMAX West Realty Inc., is highlighting its recently published analysis of Canadian downsizing trends and their implications for buyers in Toronto, Etobicoke and the Greater Toronto Area.The article, “Will Downsizing Trends Make Buying Easier for the Next Generation of Owners in Canada?”, examines whether older homeowners moving into smaller properties will provide the housing supply that younger buyers have been waiting for. Its central argument is that buyers should distinguish a gradual demographic change from an immediate improvement in local affordability.
The analysis draws on research announced by REMAX Canada on April 15, 2026. In that national survey, 10 per cent of Canadians said they intended to move to a smaller home within the next decade. Among respondents aged 65 and older, the share was 16 per cent. Meanwhile, 65 per cent of respondents in that age group reported low or no availability of suitable downsizing options in their communities.
Those findings concern stated intentions and perceived availability. They are not counts of completed moves or a forecast of GTA listings. The survey was conducted from March 30 to April 1, 2026, among 1,507 adult Canadians who belong to the Angus Reid Forum.

Accessibility, proximity to family and services, ongoing expenses and the amount of maintenance required can all form part of that comparison. A smaller property should be assessed against the owner's actual needs rather than floor area alone.
