From the MBA Classroom to the Workplace: My Internship Experience at Meilai Education

As part of my MBA studies at China Agricultural University (CAU), I completed a two-month internship at Sanya Meilai Education & Training Center Co., Ltd. in Sanya, Hainan, from July 1 to August 31, 2026. During the internship, I worked with the Marketing Operations Department and gained practical experience in marketing, course development, digital communication, and daily business operations.

For me, the internship was an opportunity to move beyond the classroom and experience how business knowledge is applied in a real organization. As an MBA student with previous experience in English teaching, I was particularly interested in understanding how an education organization manages its courses, communicates with students and customers, and promotes its services.

Working in Marketing Operations

One of the main areas of my internship was marketing operations. Before the internship, I had studied marketing and management concepts through my MBA courses, but working in an actual organization gave me a different perspective on how these concepts are used in practice.

I participated in marketing-related activities and observed how the organization communicated its educational services to its target audience. I learned that marketing in the education industry is closely connected with understanding customer needs, presenting course value clearly, and maintaining effective communication with students and potential customers.

This experience helped me better understand the relationship between marketing strategy and daily operations. A marketing idea is not enough by itself; it needs to be connected with the organization's services, customers, communication channels, and overall business objectives.

Experience with WeChat Operations

Another important part of my internship was supporting the operation and maintenance of the company's official WeChat account. WeChat is an important communication and marketing platform in China, and working with this platform gave me practical experience that I could not gain from textbooks alone.

Through this responsibility, I learned more about how an organization uses digital communication to introduce its services, provide information, communicate with its audience, and support marketing activities. I also developed a better understanding of the importance of clear, accurate, and professional communication.

This experience showed me that digital marketing requires continuous attention to both content and audience. Understanding who the audience is and what information they need is an important part of effective communication.

Participating in Course Development

Course design and development was another major part of my internship. My previous experience as an English teacher helped me understand the learning process from the perspective of students and teachers, while my MBA studies helped me consider the organizational and business side of educational services.

During the internship, I participated in activities related to course design, development, and improvement. I was able to observe how educational ideas are developed into practical courses and how course content needs to reflect learners' needs.

This experience helped me understand that education is not only about delivering knowledge. A successful educational organization needs to consider course quality, learner expectations, communication, marketing, and operational efficiency at the same time.

My Internship Achievements and Results

The internship gave me several practical achievements that I can carry forward into my academic and professional development.

First, I successfully completed assigned responsibilities in the Marketing Operations Department, including supporting the operation and maintenance of the official WeChat account, participating in marketing activities, and contributing to course design and development. These responsibilities allowed me to move from theoretical understanding to practical application.

Second, I developed greater independence in completing professional tasks. When I received new or unfamiliar assignments, I learned to understand the requirements, organize my work, consider possible solutions, and complete tasks within the required time. Guidance from experienced colleagues also helped me improve the quality of my work and develop a more professional approach to problem-solving.

Third, I strengthened my communication and teamwork abilities. Working with colleagues required me to communicate clearly, listen to suggestions, respond to feedback, and coordinate my work with others. By the end of the internship, I had become more comfortable participating in a professional team and taking responsibility for my assigned work.

Fourth, I gained practical experience that connects three important areas of my background: business management, marketing, and education. My MBA studies provided me with knowledge of management and business, while my previous teaching experience gave me an understanding of learners and educational needs. The internship allowed me to bring these areas together in a real organizational environment.

Finally, the internship resulted in a clearer understanding of my professional interests. Through direct experience with marketing operations, digital communication, and course development, I gained a better understanding of the different functions involved in managing an education and training organization. This experience has given me a stronger foundation for further development in education, marketing, and business management.

The company also recognized my performance during the internship. I was able to demonstrate responsibility, willingness to learn, independent thinking, teamwork, initiative, and the ability to complete assigned tasks under time pressure. These outcomes made the internship not only a learning experience but also an opportunity to demonstrate my ability to contribute in a professional environment.

Learning Through Teamwork

My internship also gave me valuable experience working with colleagues in a professional environment. I participated in daily coordination, received guidance from experienced colleagues, and learned how different tasks are organized and completed within an organization.

At times, I had to complete tasks within specific requirements and time limits. These situations helped me improve my time management, communication, and ability to adapt to new tasks. I also learned the importance of asking questions, accepting feedback, and improving my work based on professional advice.

Working as part of a team showed me that business operations depend on cooperation between different people and responsibilities. Even when individual tasks appear small, they can contribute to the larger objectives of an organization.

Connecting My MBA Studies with Practice

One of the most valuable aspects of the internship was the opportunity to connect my MBA studies with real workplace experience.

In the classroom, I have studied topics such as marketing, management, customer needs, business operations, and organizational decision-making. During my internship, I could see how these concepts appear in everyday business activities.

For example, studying marketing helped me understand why an organization needs to identify its target customers and communicate its value effectively. Management knowledge helped me understand the importance of teamwork, coordination, and task organization. My experience in education helped me look at course development from both the teacher's and learner's perspectives.

The internship therefore became a practical extension of my MBA education. It allowed me to look at familiar business concepts from a different perspective and understand the challenges involved in applying them in a real organization.

Understanding the Education Industry in China

Another important benefit of the internship was gaining a closer understanding of the education and training industry in China. Working in Sanya allowed me to observe how an education organization operates within the local environment and how educational services are connected with marketing and customer communication.

As an international student studying in China, this experience was particularly valuable. It helped me become more familiar with Chinese workplace practices and gave me an opportunity to communicate and cooperate with people in a professional environment.

The experience also broadened my understanding of how education organizations can combine teaching, technology, marketing, and business management to provide services to learners.

Personal and Professional Development

Beyond the specific tasks I completed, the internship helped me develop personally and professionally. I became more confident in communicating in a workplace environment and more comfortable taking responsibility for assigned tasks.

I also learned that professional development comes from both successful experiences and challenges. When I faced unfamiliar tasks, I had to learn quickly, think independently, and use feedback to improve my work. These experiences strengthened my ability to adapt and solve problems.

The internship also encouraged me to think more seriously about my future career. My background in English teaching, combined with my current MBA studies, has given me an interest in the connection between education and business. The internship helped me see how these two areas can work together through educational management, marketing, course development, and digital communication.

Looking Back on the Experience

Looking back, my two months at Sanya Meilai Education & Training Center were an important part of my MBA journey. The internship gave me the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a real organization, gain practical experience, and better understand the relationship between education and business management.

The most important result was not a single completed task, but the combination of practical skills and professional experience I gained. I strengthened my abilities in marketing operations, digital communication, course development, teamwork, time management, and problem-solving while learning how these functions contribute to the operation of an education organization.

Most importantly, I learned that professional growth does not come only from studying theories. It also comes from observing, participating, communicating with others, accepting feedback, and taking responsibility for real tasks.

My internship in Sanya allowed me to experience a new professional environment while continuing to develop the skills I need for my future career. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from my colleagues and to contribute to the organization's daily activities.

This experience has strengthened my understanding of marketing, educational operations, and business management, while also giving me greater confidence in applying my MBA knowledge beyond the classroom. I will carry these lessons forward throughout the remainder of my MBA studies at China Agricultural University and into my future professional career.
