BANGALORE, India, September 22, 2026 - AI Agent Skills today published a research-backed founder thesis arguing that human-operated software will shrink while agent-operated infrastructure, systems of record and outcome services grow.The article, "Software for Humans Will Die. Agent Infrastructure Will Survive," examines four ways the software market could change as AI agents become software users and operators.
The first path puts native software blocks such as tasks, workflows, files, databases, communication and approvals inside the agent environment. The second lets agents compose specialist API-first services through reusable skills and workflow registries. The third gives models more workflow logic through larger, actively managed context. The fourth is an AI-native service that owns the software, agent, workflow, quality checks and exceptions, then sells the completed outcome.
The article draws on Anthropic's context-window guidance, Meta's Muse Code workflow documentation, the Lost in the Middle research paper, and analysis from Bessemer Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital and Andreessen Horowitz.
"Software is not going away. It is changing operators," the article concludes. "Human-operated SaaS will shrink. Agent-operated infrastructure, systems of record and outcome services will grow."
The research also cautions against treating context size as a complete replacement for software. Anthropic says more context is not automatically better and recommends compaction for long-running agentic work. Academic research has also found that models can struggle when relevant information appears in the middle of long context.
