Casey, Illinois · September 30, 2026Aerostratospheric, an Illinois nonprofit, today highlighted its fixed ground weather station in Casey, Illinois. The station provides continuous surface observations that anchor the organization's open atmospheric data.
The station is a personal weather station that reports to Weather Underground as KILCASEY47. It measures temperature, humidity, wind, barometric pressure and rain, and a pyranometer measures solar radiation. On the Platforms page, these surface readings are listed as calibration context for Aerostratospheric's high-altitude and mid-altitude flight platforms.
Aerostratospheric is a registered participant in the NASA GLOBE Program (GO-4VW9B). Air temperatures from the Casey site (GLOBE site 422147) are submitted through the GLOBE API, and the published observations appear on the organization's public xDataHub dashboard.
xDataHub also shows readings from the same Casey site next to the station data. These include the Aerostratospheric radiation index, which detects beta, gamma and X-ray ionizing radiation and reports counts per minute and an estimated dose rate. The hub notes that two more Casey ground sensors are being added so that light and storm activity can be read alongside temperature and dose rate.
Aerostratospheric designs, builds and flies lightweight high-altitude payload science platforms under FAA Part 101. Its launches are private science operations, and results are shared publicly for awareness and education. The organization publishes open atmospheric observations through UOGW (Unified Open Global Weather) and xDataHub. It welcomes collaboration with researchers, educators and partners on open-data reuse and classroom use of Casey observations.
