MADRID, Spain, October 24, 2026. There is an old Spanish habit of laughing at what hurts most. It runs through popular comedy, neighbourhood gossip and late-night conversations in bars, and it runs through the songs of Mike Sain't Louis, the Madrid-based lyricist, composer and music producer who created the queer universe Planeta Gayfolk. He calls himself the first AI songwriter: he writes the lyrics, composes and produces, while the music and the vocal performance are made with AI. This release looks at three of his songs that use humour not as decoration but as a survival tool.
Trick one: make the past ridiculous
«Ni un pimiento» takes its title from a Spanish expression for something worthless, "not worth a pepper". The song applies it to grief itself: crying over the past, it says, is not worth a pepper. The chorus delivers the advice a friend gives on a bad night: «Mejor ríe alto que el mundo está marcado», better to laugh out loud.
The joke reaches its peak in a surreal image. After an emotional swindle, the song suggests, one would be happier strolling hand in hand with a portable freezer and a vacuum sealer. Absurd? Completely. That is exactly why it works. Something that once seemed overwhelming is reduced to the size of a kitchen appliance, and the listener laughs before realising that the laugh has made the memory a little lighter.
Trick two: admit the weakness, then reach for the snacks
«Y sigo temblando siempre» begins with a moving confession about opening up completely to another person, dissecting a personality «en 40 partes». When it all goes wrong, the remedy is humble and funny: «necesito un eterno Kit Kat». An eternal chocolate bar as emotional first aid.
Later the song compares the past relationship to the blooper reel of a Spanish sitcom, asking whether everything was outtakes from a famous TV comedy. The joke does not cancel the pain; it frames it. Turning a betrayal into a television gag gives the narrator a little distance, enough to keep going. And the refrain, «y me rindo, y sigo temblando siempre», is honest enough to admit that the trembling has not stopped.
Trick three: laugh at yourself before anyone else can
«Antisocial» defends the choice to spend time alone, with pets and a handful of trusted friends. Its humour is self-directed. One line plays with prejudice by listing what the narrator is not: «No soy feo, no, ni calvo ni amable», not ugly, not bald, and not kind either. The joke disarms the listener, and then comes the sincere follow-up: «pero en mi pecho late un corazón noble».
This is a classic move in the author's writing: get the laugh first, then say something true while the guard is down. The song ends with a quiet, proud line about a small world that cannot be broken: «mi mundo es pequeño, pero es inquebrantable».
Why humour, and why now
Humour is not denial. Psychologists often describe it as a mature coping strategy when it helps people see a problem from a different angle without pretending it does not exist. These three songs never pretend everything is fine. They acknowledge the swindle, the tears and the loneliness. They simply refuse to let those things have the last word.
For queer communities, humour has long been a shield and a weapon. Camp, irony and exaggeration have helped generations of LGBTQ+ people answer contempt with wit. Planeta Gayfolk inherits that tradition and brings it into electronic pop and dance tracks, alongside quieter songs that deal directly with depression and anxiety.
When laughing is not enough
There are days when no joke helps. Mike Sain't Louis has spoken publicly about living with post-traumatic stress, depression and anxiety, and about the treatment that is helping him today. He shares it so others seek help sooner. In Spain, 024 is a free, confidential line open 24 hours a day for anyone in crisis or having thoughts of suicide; in an emergency, call 112.
The image
The illustration accompanying this release shows no people: a cartoon green pepper next to a small white portable freezer on a warm orange background sprinkled with white dots. It is the comic still life of «Ni un pimiento», drawn as simply as possible.
