The second paragraph describes something many survivors of manipulation recognise immediately. For a long time, the narrator asked himself questions. He doubted himself, his reactions, his limits. He was convinced he was exaggerating, that he was too sensitive, that everything was a «malentendido», a misunderstanding. Then, three short words: «No era yo». It was not me.
This is the moment of clarity that the whole letter builds toward. The doubt was planted; it was not his own. Naming that is often the first real step out of a manipulative dynamic.

Then the letter turns, and the next sentence stands alone as a paragraph: «Fuiste tú». It was you. The repetition that follows is calm rather than furious. It was the other person who lied, manipulated, played with emotions as if they were worthless. He looked into the narrator's eyes and said what he wanted to hear, while doing the opposite behind his back.
The restraint of the language is striking. There is no insult, no shouting. The power of the passage comes from its plainness.
Love, and what it was not
The letter does not deny that there was love. «Porque sí, te quise», because yes, I loved you, much more than the other deserved. The narrator endured things that should not be endured for love, «porque lo que me dabas no era amor», because what you gave me was not love. It was, the text says, dependency disguised as affection.
That distinction, between love and dependency dressed up as love, is one of the most valuable insights in the letter. Many people stay in harmful relationships because the intensity feels the same as devotion. Hearing the difference spelled out can be a revelation.
Guilt returned to sender
The letter goes on to dismantle the guilt the narrator was made to carry. He was led to believe he owed something, that his anger was unfair, that his doubts were jealousy or insecurity. In reality, the text suggests, those doubts were his instincts trying to protect him.
