ASTORIA, N.Y. — October 23, 2026 — Synagogues, Jewish community centers, Chabad houses, and downtown associations host public menorah lightings, latke festivals, and Hanukkah family nights in early December, and invitations go out in November. Clear signs help neighbors find the lighting, the parking, and the family activities. 48 Hours Banners (https://48hoursbanners.com) is sharing a Hanukkah menorah lighting and community celebration signage plan for congregations and community groups.Signage for the celebration:
- A large vinyl banner at the plaza, park, or building entrance with the event name, nightly lighting times, and website.
- A step-and-repeat or photo backdrop for families at the lighting, with the congregation or sponsor logos.
- Yard signs on nearby streets pointing to parking, the entrance, and accessible seating.
- A retractable banner at the welcome table for RSVPs, donations, and upcoming programs, with a QR code.
Tips for planning:
- Order outdoor banners in weatherproof vinyl with grommets for fences, poles, and building fronts.
- Use one main banner for all eight nights and smaller signs for individual nightly events.
- Put sponsor thank-yous on a separate fence banner so the main sign stays easy to read.
"A community lighting is often the first time neighbors visit, and clear signs make everyone feel welcome," said a spokesperson for 48 Hours Banners. "With 48-hour delivery and free overnight shipping, organizers can order in November and have everything in hand before the first night."
